Hempton and Patchway Project Introduction

Patchway, situated in South Gloucestershire, is town which is  relatively unknown. Its place on the map owes itself almost entirely to the areas surrounding it.

Patchway's past is disappearing under the weight of a seemingly endless stream of development. For that reason i have been researching the now lost landmarks, buildings and farms of Patchway. This site will be my platform for sharing information which i have gathered and also a place for others to add their own memories, photos, documents.

I have lived, worked and "played" in and around the area for approximately 25 years. By then, many of the buildings, landmarks and farms i will discuss were already gone. I will rely therefore on the publications, memories, photos and information of others- those who remember Patchway before my time. Please feel free to email me at styler78@hotmail.co.uk if you would like to share any information you have on the history of Patchway and the surrounding areas.

The area of Aztec West, was once the greater part of a now "lost" hamlet of farms and cottages. It was named "Hempton" and was joined with Patchway throughout its history. Aztec West is now a part of Patchway. Hempton no longer exists by name but hints of its former existence can been seen today in the much changed landscape. I will discuss these remains in separate posts.

Discussions on Patchway and Hempton will make up the majority of posts, but there will also be posts on other nearby areas such as Bradley Stoke, Little Stoke and Almondsbury.

For quick viewing of this site, please look for the "labels" at the right hand side of the Home Page, rather than looking in date order.
These will label each farm, building, etc for easy viewing later. If you only wish to see posts on one topic, such as "Upper Hempton Farm" you will scroll down to that label, click on it and all the posts relating to that farm will appear.

Stuart Tyler
